Hey dere! We made it back from our East Coast / Midwest tour with the Swingin' Utters and The Street Dogs. There were laughs, sweat, tears, van problems ... more van problems ... and then a lot more van problems. It felt more like a midwest auto's class tour for us. Weirdly enough, this tour was one of the best tours we've ever been on, but one of the worst tours we've ever experienced. Personally known to us as,"The Tour From Hell". Our "fun" started just outside of Detroit which you can read about HERE. There will also be a conclusive part 2 blog posted soon. Overall, the tour was a blast! Swingin' Utters and Street Dogs killled it every show and they're all super awesome cool dudes. BIG Thanks to S.U. & S.D. for having us on tour, everyone who came to the shows and those who put up with our van problem drama bullshit...Mark & Rob. We miss you already. Next stop, London!

We're back from our tour down to the FEST. Our van has no heat, no a/c, it leaks gasoline fumes inside, the alignment is way off and no CD player. It's VAN-tastic. Here's some highlights...

• We listened to all the AC/DC NON hits and found that "Squealer", the last song on Dirty Deeds, is one of the funniest AC/DC songs ever!. SQUEALAH!!

• We got a rude awakening by someone puking on Chris' sleeping bag at 6am. Chris was pissed, but laughs about it now.

• NAT drove the van for the first time! ...and nearly had a nervous breakdown. He's good for a few years.

• Tony & Chris survived an elevator crash at the FEST. There were 19 people in an 8 person cap elevator. Watch the video. FEST 7 ELEVATOR

• After the elevator fiasco, Tony bear-hugged a fellow Fester named, Mitch. But when Tony put him down, Mitch dislocated his knee! He laid screaming in pain on the lobby floor. Tony was in shock and was apolozing. Mitch replied, "It's cool man, you were just partying." After about 10 minutes his knee popped back into place and the party continued. Sorry dude for MITCH-locating your knee.

• Using drunk logic, Chris unknowingly put the inside security latch on the hotel room door and then passed out. This little move locked the rest of the band out of their hotel room. They weren't happy.

• Oh yeah, we played a bunch of shows too. But you don't want to hear about that.

Hi everyone!

Well, we've been keeping it somewhat under wraps until now – but we're excited to announce that we have officially signed with Riot Fest Records! The starting roster for RFR includes Naked Raygun, The Bollweevils and Shot Baker. You can check out more details at www.riotfest.org

We have been in the studio recently working with Dan Precision on our next full length album which will be released on Riot Fest Records. We are finished with the actual recording aspect of things, and are now down to the fun part of mixing and mastering. The release date for the new album is still TBA, but we'll keep you posted.

Also since RFR are huge fans of Justin (aka Big Pappa J) and his label, Underground Communique Records and everything that they're doing, UCR will be releasing Shot Baker's new album on vinyl as well. With that said, plan on seeing a few musical endeavors that Riot Fest and UCR will be co-conspiring on in the near future.

Furthermore, RFR is announcing that The Bollweevils, like Naked Raygun, are 100% back!! They have a new Web site up at www.bollweevils.org, which goes into detail what the future holds for our beloved 'Weevils. If you missed them at RF2006, you have no idea what you've missed… they're tighter then they have ever been.

Also at www.riotfest.org, you can see what releases are planned for 2007 and beyond.

To celebrate the launch of the label, on Friday April 27 at the House of Blues late show (Chicago), Jake Burns from Stiff Little Fingers will go on stage with Naked Raygun once again (because everyone's been demanding an encore of their RF2006 performance) to perform a few SLF tunes. Also, to add to the celebration, Dan Schafer (Sludgeworth/Screeching Weasel/Riverdales/Methadones) will go on stage with Raygun and perform a Sludgeworth tune. Although tickets for the first show (NR, The Bollweevils, The Effigies, Shot Baker) are sold-out, a few tickets remain for the second show (NR w/ Jake Burns and Dan Schafer, Dillinger Four and The Bollweevils). Hello ya'll, we're back from our latest southern tour with our good friends Secret Agent Bill and we're happy to say it was a freak'n blast! Big thanks to SAB for taking us out with them. Also to all the bands we played with, the promoters, friends who let us crash on their floor, and everyone who came out to the shows! (We hope you had as much fun as we did) It was awesome, 11 shows in 11 days. We can't wait to get back on the road for another trip. Pictures will be posted soon. Thanks again to ya'll!

We'll be heading into the studio April 9 to begin recording our next album. As of right now we have 11 new songs ready to go. The album title and release date is TBA.

PUNKNEWS.ORG reviews the new Shot Baker demo...

How unfortunate it is that Fall Out Boy has become the most well-known name to come out of the Chicago scene in recent years. I'm not going to say Chicago punk scene, because considering the band I mentioned, that would be wildly erroneous. The fact remains however, that Chicago needs a new band to carry the Windy City's torch.

That band, well that band just may be Shot Baker.

Garnering a host of comparisons to such punk giants as Avail and Dillinger Four, these upstarts are beginning their career on the right foot, with an demo chock full of anthemic punk rock sure to make a home in your CD player for a long time to come. Vocalist Tony Kovacs is the glue that holds together this tightly built ship, as his gruff and unwavering delivery is the centerpiece of every song that he lends his talents to, his command and forcefulness is equal parts commanding and endearing. Falling Apart shows his diversity, as he's just as comfortable singing over the staggered riffing, as shouting his lungs out at the end of the song when the music really picks up.

And that's another extremely strong element of the music, is the ability of the musicians to make things compelling no matter the pace, no matter the tempo. During the slower, bass driven moments, like the first half of Awake, they don't so much as lose a step. No, quite the contrary, as they seamlessly kick into overdrive towards the end, complete with some fluid soloing courtesy of guitarist John Krohn. Sorry Illinois wastes no time to kick the door down, the lighting quick riffing and relentless drum fills starting right away, with Kovac's fiery vocals not far behind.

This demo serves only as a prelude to a full-length slated for release later this year, and I for one, cannot wait. This band epitomizes the golden trifecta of talent, passion, and relentlessness, and it should carry them right off lake Michigan into the homes of people that love good punk rock all across the country.

The Awake album will soon be re-released completely re-recorded, remastered, and it will also include a new song that didn't make it the first time around, "Echoes of the Dead". The Awake re-release will also have a completely new art design as well. There's no official release date yet, but we'll keep you posted as things progess.

If you'd like a taste of the new stuff, you can get a free 5 song demo at our upcoming demo/ep release show on Friday May 26th at the Waiting Room in Rogers Park (the venue's grand opening). We're very excited about this one for many reasons. In addition to this show being our demo/ep release show and the end of our winter hibernation, we'll be playing with one of our favorite bands in the country: The Bomb! Check the SHOWS section for more details. If you can't make it out to the show, but still want a free demo/ep, you'll be able to find them at record stores around town in nifty little display boxes. If you can't get to the show or to the record stores, just email us, and we'll figure out a way to get one to you.

About the WAITING ROOM... it was formerly called THE STUDIO, but has been taken over by new promoters (Justin and Chris from Underground Communique' Records) who are steering the venue in an entirely different direction. "The Waiting Room", referring to Fugazi's classic sing-along tune, is receiving a substantial makeover by its new promoters, including a new paint job (something other than "claustrophobic black"), new PA and sound system, and a new booking attitude; a combination that will hopefully bring Chicago many cool shows for a long time to come. And for the older kids, there's a bar right next door that won't be charging a cover for patrons of the Waiting Room. Friday, May 26th is the new venue's kickoff show. We hope you can make it.

In other news...we're currently finishing things up with Dan Precision over at Bombshelter Studio where we are re-vamping and re-mixing the AWAKE album. We decided that for its second pressing we want it to sound its best. In addition, we're changing the cover and adding one of the songs that didn't make it on the record the first time around. Meanwhile we're still hard at work writing a new record, which is as-of-yet untitled. We'll be headed back to the Bombshelter for that one in the fall.

NEW ALBUM DEMO RELEASE!
We're in the midst of finishing up the recording and it should be ready to go in the next few weeks. This demo features four brand new Shot Baker songs that will also be on our next full length release, possibly July.

We'll be playing May 26th, for the all ages GRAND OPENING of, The Waiting Room in Roger's Park with the Bomb and more bands tba. Some of you might have noticed that we've been laying low lately, but don't worry it's all for a good reason. We've been working on a new album and so far, the writing has been going really well. Tony will be on vacation March 23- April 15 (traveling the west coast), so we plan to head into the studio late April or early May.
Anyway, things are looking good and we can't wait for this new release to be out. If all goes well, we would like to have it out by July. We plan to go nuts with playing shows again and touring. So please just bare with us for a few more months.

Here's some other cool news....

We have a split 7" w/ Vacation Bible School coming out on Underground Communique Records. It's a tribute to one of Chicago's greatest, the Vindictives! We do "Future Homemakers of America" and "Glad To Be". VBS does "Automaton" and "Assembly Line". A short run of 300 copies will be made only on vinyl. Keep an eye out for it this April!

And... We'll also have a song featured on, "The World I Know" a tribute to pegboy CD. Put out on Underground Communique Records. The song we do is Spaghetti Western. This tribute has 25 tracks. This should be out by April as well. So keep a lookout for it. It's awesome!

Wow, November already. Damn, time flies...Well we've finished recording "Glad To Be" and "Future Homemakers" for the Vindictives Split 7" that we're doing with Vacation Bible School. We're working on the mixes and then it's off to mastering. There's no release date yet, but we're hoping for early February or March. And here's some other good news... FINALLY, on our third recording of the Pegboy's song, "Spaghetti Western" we got it right this time! Spaghetti Western will be featured on a Pebgoy tribute album, The World I Know on Underground Communique Records. Check out their website for news and release dates.

We're also working on some new material! Yes, it's true! We've been demo-ing the new stuff and want to get into the studio asap. We don't have any dates, but rest a sured we're working on new material. We're gonna try and lay low this winter and focus on the new stuff.

Wer'e back safe and sound! Our east coast tour was a blast. Even though the car + trailer set up was rediculous, everything went smoothly. Tony is working on the full detailed writing up that should include pictures as well, but in liner note terms: the shows were mostly a bust, the cities were fun, people were great, we've seen tons of "bizzaro" things that freakishly reminded us of home, the weather was hot, and we really appreciate the Chicago music scene. Ok! Here's what's been goin' on with Shot Baker.

TOURING: The Midwest / East coast tour for this September is on its way! As the saying goes, Third's a Charm, right? Well, we've been busting our asses to make this one finally happen. So far things have been going great and dates are starting to fill up. Big thanks to the people who have been behind us in Chicago, as well as friends, bands, and promoters...you guys are awesome. Check out our shows page frequently to see where we'll be playing in September.

RECORDING: We're in the works of writing a bunch of new songs. They're all coming together quite nicely and we're all pretty excited about it. We're planning on recording these songs in November. Don't quote us on that, but that's what we've been talking about. Hopefully we'll have an early spring release date for our next record. We'll keep you updated.

THE PEGBOY COMP (only 5 years overdue!): In an ironic turn of events, Shot Baker, the band who embraced the Pegboy compilation fully by jumping in the fire with Justin Communique and helping get the wheels fully in motion, has finally record their song, "Spaghetti Western" which contains the lyrics that the title of the comp is to be named: "THE WORLD I KNOW." It turns out that the band who was supposed to record Spaghetti Western in the first place has now broken up and will not be able to do so. So we've picking up the slack, as it seems fitting to have the song by which the comp's title was influenced to make an appearance on the comp. We recorded Spaghetti Western with Chris Suity at the UCR laboratory. After that, the comp will be mastered and sent to the presses! So expect it soon! (for real this time!)

Ok! Here's what's been goin' on with Shot Baker.

PLAYING: We've been heading out of town alot in lieu of frequenting Chicago, and we're now ready to start reversing the formula. Many people have been complaining that we don't play enough all-ages shows, so we're gonna start making all-ages a priority. On that note, if you'd like to give us any info on where we can play some all ages shows in or around Chicago, we're all ears!

RECORDING: We're in the works of writing a bunch of new songs. They're all coming together quite nicely and we're all pretty excited about it. We're planning on recording these songs within the next couple months or so and then shopping it around to record labels. If nobody likes our noise, we'll either release it ourselves or beg Justin of Underground Communique Records http://www.undercomm.org/ to give us all his money, time, and energy yet again. We'll keep you updated.

TOURING: "Three's a charm," as they say. After having the last two tours we had planned fall through, (first to the West Coast and second to the East), we're ready to put all our faith into the "3rd time" cliche. This time we're prepared! We've got press kits! (can you believe that I've been doing this band shit for 10+ years and never once until now have I been involved in developing a press kit) But much more than self-stroking press kits (a necessary evil, we're told), we've got lots of really great people behind us in Chicago, as well as friends, bands, and promoters floating around our regional tour destination: the East Coast. The tour is tentatively planned for September, and God (or whatever you're into) can strike us dead if we fail again.

Shot Baker Newsletter

Hey guys, welcome to our first newsletter. We are going to try and do this weekly if not bi-weekly. Basically we want to keep in touch with all of you and let you know what we are up to.

First of all, we're currently booking our first east coast tour. We're pretty excited to leave the midwest for the first time. We do however need your help. This being our first tour ever, we need some help getting shows so if you want us to play near you send us an email and we can try and make it happen. Before we give you an update on what's been goin'down, here's a reminder that EVERYONE SHOULD COME OUT TO THE LIBERTYVILLE SHOW ON FRIDAY, JANUARY, 21ST! We've played here once before and have had a blast. The kids that come out to these shows are awesome, and the promoters are real down to earth guys. We hope to play there over and over again in the future.

OK... big thanks to everyone who came out to the Mutiny on Saturday 1/8/05. The show was an absolutely awesome time and we owe our happiness to all of you psychos who almost tore the place down. Thank you!

For those who were late or too drunk to remember, we brought in a band from Indianapolis called About The Fire . These guys are our new buds and we've been talking of swapping shows regularly. They had a great time playing at the Mutiny and managed to sell a bunch of merch, so we're glad you guys liked 'em and we hope you'll support them like you do us.

Also on the roster was ALFORD MAFIA, a two man punk rock sucker-punch consisting of the legendary Paul Think on guitar/vox and his brother Ben on the skins. The show was great and Paul, as always, was a barrel of laughs in-between songs. The thing that makes AM so cool is their unique blend between seriousness and hilarity. Insightful and often dreadful lyrics about death and addiction are quickly followed by jokes about the Cubs. We'll be playing with these guys many times, I'm sure, so don't miss them!

Opening the show was MUCUS, a horror-punk type of band in full costume with Amy, the gorgeous dead princess, on vocals, and a band full of zombies and beasts pounding their way through a frightening, yet awkwardly seductive set. We recommend them highly.

Other than all that, we're taking a slight break from playing in Chicago for several reasons. We've got alot on our plate both in the band and in our personal lives and we're planning all kinds of time consuming activities like writing, recording, touring, etc. The other main reason you won't see us in the city for a few months is that we don't want you to get burnt out on us! So unless you're willing to travel, you'll be living Shot Baker free for awhile and hopefully the next time we play in Chicago we'll have a new release for you, as well as alot of other good stuff going on.

Hope you all had a lovely turkey day. Here's what's goin' on with us.

We've been doing weekend warrior tours and it's been lots of fun. Two weeks ago (11/12, 11/13) we played in Michigan. On Friday we played in Grand Rapids MI at Skelletones with old friends The Symptoms and new friends Flatfoot 56. All the bands played really well and the kids went nuts, which is always cool. For those who haven't heard of Flatfoot yet, they're a Christian skinhead band (the working class types, not racist) that plays really incredible Celtic punk rock. All politics aside, these guys are some of the nicest people we've ever talked to. Thanks to Mirph at Skelletones, Kit & Melissa for putting us up, and Benny from Smackmadam for getting us out of town.

Just this last weekend (11/26,11/27) we were in Wisconsin. On Friday we played at the Mission Coffee House in Stevens Point WI that, by the way, has an awesome old crusty foozeball table that you can play for hours. On Saturday we played at the Whiting Boat House in Neenah WI.

Stevens Point was a blast. During our set Nat was using the Symptoms bass rig which crapped out half way through our set, but while the problem was being worked on John and Chris kept everyones attention by improvising a whole goof off jam session where both of them sang random thoughts. It was the "John and Chris" show for like 10 minutes. Funny stuffy, it at least kept everyones attention long enough to continue our set.

This show was also really cool because The Mudgetts, the band that asked us to come up, learned a couple Poonanies songs and had Tony sing with them. The Poonanies, was Tony's old band, that was well liked in Stevens Point when they were active, and the crowd, which pretty much consisted of the Symptoms, Shot Baker and a few strangers went nuts for the two songs they did; Broken Heart and I Know I Should. This was both tons of fun and an incredible learning experience. The Poonanies are actually thinking about getting together to do a couple shows in Chicago and Stevens Point. Saturday night in Neenah turned out to be a blast as well. We played with the Symptoms, Wisconsin Flu Death, and Choose Your Poison. The show was a really good time and we made some good friends who we later then partied with and crashed at their punkhouse. So thanks to Shane, Ben, Sarah and whoever else lived in that place. You guys rule!

Speaking of weekend warrior tours, WE NEED ROADIES!!
Usually we go out by ourselves but lately we've been grabbing a friend to make the haul with us. This has proven to make the trip even more fun and exciting. So if you know us, and want to get out of the city for a weekend, and don't mind working merch and helping us load and unload, then we'd love to have you on board for the weekend! Just let us know which date you want to come out with us.

Hello Everyone,

We just got back from a short weekend warrior tour down to Carbondale, IL and St Louis, MO. Both shows were a lot of fun. In Carbondale we played at a place called Big Boys with 99 Stab Wounds, The Hateful Dead, and the Dammit Boys. Frankie Rigali (our good friend and the guy who wrote Sorry Illinois) and his girlfriend, Julia, stopped to see us in Carbondale on their way up to Chicago from New Orleans. This was the very first time Frankie had seen us and therefore the first time heâ€™d seen us perform his song. Hopefully we did the song some justice! The show was tons of fun and we met a lot of great people who later took us over to the legendary Lost Cross punkhouse. Lost Cross is a communal house that throws shows and has been running since 1986. The place is certainly a shithole but also quite possibly a small piece of heaven. We were incredibly happy to hang out and drink there. Thanks to Ray, Brino, Nick, Jen, Tilly, and the rest of the Carbondale crew for making our stay so exciting.

Saturday night we played at the Creepy Crawl in Saint Louis with Aces and Eights, Sex Robots, and Broadzilla from Detroit. The show was totally awesome. All the bands were incredible. Our friends Joey and Andy made the long haul down to Saint Louis to see us which made the show that much more fun. Big thanks to Brian from Aces and Eights for having us, and the rest of the gang for taking care of us after Brian got too drunk to form a sentence.

We've got a couple more weekend warrior tours scheduled for this month and then we'll be taking December off to do some writing and relaxing.

Wow, last nights record release show at the Fireside was one crazy ass show! What the hell was that all about? The Symptoms kicked ass and even though they had to cut their set short due to technical problems they still fuckin rocked no matter what they think. The Culprits were tight as hell and for seeing them the first time I was really impressed and look forward to seeing these guys in the future. Man, thanks to everyone who came out to this show and really turned it into an awesome night. I don't know what kind of a freakin jinx we have but it seems at almost every show something unimaginable happens to us and somehow through all the bullshit you guys (the fans) stick it out with us to turn what would be a total bullshit show into an unforgettable time. HELL YEAH YOU GUYS RULE! I mean who the hell in their right mind would imagine that the fucking P.A. speakers would have collapsed and basically explode?! It was insane, and seriously one of the most fun shows we have had so far. Thank you. I Hope everyone had as much of a great time as we did last night and that you guys like the new album.
